Batman (English for "Bat-Man") is a comic book character conceived by Bob Kane and further developed by Bill Finger, whose civilian identity is that of billionaire Bruce Wayne, and who wears a black, bat-like suit. Batman first appeared in May 1939 in the American comic magazine Detective Comics (issue 27). The publishing house later renamed itself DC Comics after the abbreviation of this series; Batman is considered its most popular comic character.
