Transformers is an American-Japanese media franchise that was founded in 1984 by the toy companies Takara (Japan) and Hasbro (USA). The franchise includes action figures, comics, books and animated series, computer games & an animated film, and since 2007, live-action films. The Transformers are alien, sentient robots. They originate from the planet Cybertron and are engaged in a perpetual war among themselves. The Autobots fight against the significantly more aggressive Decepticons.
